Georgian Bay Weather Warning: Georgian Bay can generate large waves rapidly. Southwest and northwest winds are most hazardous on the open bay. How dangerous is boating on Georgian Bay?
Georgian Bay can be hazardous for inexperienced boaters. It's a large, open body of water capable of generating 3-metre waves in strong winds. The 30,000 Islands area is more sheltered but requires good charts and navigation skills due to shoals and rock hazards. Always check Environment Canada Marine Forecast for Georgian Bay before launching, carry a VHF radio (tuned to Ch. 16), and file a float plan with someone on shore.
What national park is on Georgian Bay?
Georgian Bay Islands National Park protects 63 islands in the Thirty Thousand Islands. Beausoleil Island is the largest and offers camping, hiking, and excellent bass and pike fishing.
